Well, its the last day of the year, and I haven't blogged in a while. I actually haven't blogged since I was still on my cycling trip to San Diego, so I figured I'd catch up a bit. I was going to write a blog about my monumental year, all my accomplishments and all that crap, but if you want to know how my year was, just read a few blogs. In a nutshell, I had a very busy year, but rather than bore the 3 readers who read this stuff about my deep thoughts and selfish pats on my back for a job well done, I will instead contemplate the future.
For 2014, I have no idea what that year will bring. Most years I set for myself some very lofty goals, that tend to consume me for the entire year just about. I think because last year was probably one of the most difficult years of my professional life, this year I feel like coasting a bit. Its hard to say that even, because it sounds so lazy. Maybe next year will bring another beverage truck, and possibly a sales rep. As weird as it may sound, I have never hired a sales person. It's always been me. I think its because a sales rep is a massive commitment of time and money. A sales rep brings in new business, but it costs a lot of money to bring in new business. I don't actually recover the costs of acquiring a new customer for sometimes up to a year, so I have to be sure I can afford a sales rep. Can I afford to invest $100K or more into the project? Its a good question. I suppose it should be looked at from the same perspective of any type of investment into a business that's growing. At the end of the day, in the long term, it will pay off, so the answer should be yes, if I had the cash, but I'd have to find it, and that's kinda scary.
Business aside, in 2014 I do plan to set a few personal goals this year. I have entered the Ride To Conquer Cancer, which is a 2 day cycling event from Vancouver to Seattle. (I have to raise $2500, so I will hit you up!). I would also like to enter the Gran Fondo race to Whistler, and the Tough Mudder challenge in Whistler as well. If I can squeeze another triathlon in there, I might do that as well. I need a new road bike!
So forget 2013, bring on 2014! Happy New Year :)
