It's the morning on Day 5, and I cycled back up the road to see if I could eat at Fermwoods again, but they weren't open. I begrudgingly headed back down to the Big Sur Lodge to the restaurant there, but it's far too pretentious here, and the service is freaking sloooow. I gotta go, can you hurry it up? I thought about carrying on and seeing what might be down the road, but I've done that before only to realize NOTHING is down the road. So here I sit... Impatiently waiting for my $20 breakfast. Ugh... Continental breakfasts all of a sudden sound awesome. At least you can grab and run.
We'll, I'm in Gorda. It's 2:26 and I think I'm only half way. Today has been nothing but hills. I sure hope I have the power to make it all the way to Cambria. Press on... Press on... Quick lunch, and charge the batteries.
We'll I stopped short of Cambria by about 5 miles. It was 7 and getting dark, and I was out of steam. This was definitely the hardest day. I climbed mountains today, ran out of water once, and checked in just before Cambria, in San Simeon Village. The rooms are cheaper, and I was done.
My plans were to get to cambria today, and then Santa Maria tomorrow, but I don't know if I can pull another day like today. I did 105km today, which normally is no big deal, but the hills owned me today, and Santa Maria will be even farther. According to the elevation map, the hills are subtle and more manageable. Maybe that'll make the difference, but I'll see how my body feels tomorrow. Trying to get to Santa Monica by Friday, where I have planned a day off on Saturday. I really don't want to have to skip my day off.
