Pacific Coast Cycling Tour 2013 - Day 4 Monterey - Big Sur Lodge

Much better day! Best so far. I slept a total of 10 hours last night, woke up feeling great. I should know better than to eat the continental breakfasts, but free is free, and I always end up eating that crap.

Made a good start this morning, but while following the cycling signs, it took me the wrong way. It must have been intended for the North bound cyclers, but I don't know how anyone would know. You get to a T intersection, and it just said to go left. It's actually go right.

Got thru Carmel, which is totally beautiful, and obviously full of money, and then met up with a couple of cyclers named Greg and Kenny. They were 24 year old best friends cycling from New York to LA. They've been on the road for 3 1/2 months so far, and a week to go. How cool is that. I cycled with them for most the day, until I got a flat, and pulled over. They were nice enough to wait for me at the Little River Inn where we fueled up and had a rest. My destination was only 2 miles down the road, so we cycled together again and said goodbye. They have a blog you can read at www.bikemantras.com. Nice guys.

My stay is at Big Sur Lodge, and as soon as I arrived, I realized how out of place I was. It's more of a retirement home. I got over it as soon as I realized that I myself am old, so it ain't so bad.

There's no internet or TV's here, which I think is supposed to be part of the charm, and why they charge so much. It's is nice tho, if you wanna relax and watch deer, turkeys and retirees walk by. Really.

After a few beers at the lounge, and some friendly chatter with a nice couple from Santa Cruz, I walked a mile up the road to the Fernwood. Pub food, beer and wifi.

Biggest day of all tomorrow: Cambria. 115 km. yikes.
