Early start with a crappy continental breakfast today. Stopped in Davenport for a coffee, and met this really cool couple who were on a day cycle from Santa Cruz, on a tandem bike. They were both really healthy looking, and you couldn't tell they were cycling, cause neither of them showed any signs of sweat. He asked me where I was heading, and I told him San Diego, and he told me he's done it many many times. He asked if I me I had any questions? I actually did have a few. My biggest concern on this trip is Big Sur. I know it's in the middle of nowhere, and I'm not sure about accommodations. He said it shouldn't be that bad. It's off season now, and mid week. He also pointed out some places to stay in different cities along the way. Nice couple. I took some video of them, but I forgot his name already. Sorry dude. I'm glad I got to meet him tho. I feel better about that stretch.
While I was in Davenport, I booked a motel in Santa Cruz on Hotels Tonight app. $58. That's more like it. Got to Santa Cruz at about 4/4:30 ish. Did my usual routine of getting cleaned up, and headed downtown, which was only a few blocks away. Trendy and hip, kinda touristy even, but that worked for me. I drank 4 beers and a fireball shooter for $12 in is small dive bar before heading out for dinner. I found a wicked pizza and couldn't help but notice "99 Bottles of Beer" bar nearby. Great selection of beers, so I had another few. If you try all 99 beers, you get on the wall of fame. Somebody had actually done it 10 times.
I can't seem to shake this cold. I have a sore throat every morning. I'm sure the beers don't help, but I didn't come here to cuddle up in bed and drink neo citron. Monterey tomorrow.
